About Us

The Irish Qualitative Data Archive (IQDA) will be a central access point for qualitative social science data; interviews, pictures and other non-numerical material. It will frame the parameters and standards for archiving such data within the Irish research community.
This national programme for archiving qualitative data will be a valuable tool for both the research community and the public record. The archive will provide online access to all new qualitative data generated within the Irish Social Science Platform, and to selected existing data. The IQDA has established protocols to ensure that newly generated qualitative data are documented and stored in ways that facilitate sharing and re-use through online access. This will help to promote high standards of data collection and management.
The archive will also be a valuable resource for teaching, especially in research methods. The IQDA is building on existing archiving projects being undertaken by NIRSA at NUIM both relating to photographs (NIRSA photoarchive and the Ned Cassidy Photoarchive, the latter in conjunction the Irish Architectural Archive (IAA) and NUIM library).

IQDA is currently funded as part of the Irish Social Science Platform by the Higher Education Authority under the national Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions (Cycle 4).
